The cruise industry is once again (September 2020) becoming active, with cruises now underway in southern Europe. A total of 199 scheduled cruises are being offered in November and December with a focus on the Caribbean and Mediterranean.
JBNA was invited to join the Global Cruise Activist Network (GCAN), a loose group which shares information on the industry. Each group works to contain or eliminate impacts on communities near cruise ports.
To discover more about GCAN please visit their website.
On the 2nd September 2020 JBNA participated in a worldwide Zoom press conference where GCAN members presented the twelve “Principles of Responsible Cruise Tourism”.

At the 9th September 2020 JBNA ZOOM Discussion Forum the five principles most relevant to our neighbourhood were reviewed. These are:
#3 Cultural & Quality of Life Impacts
#6 Air Pollution: Stop polluting the air
#8 Monitoring & Transparency: Publicly disclose your performance
#9 Environment & Biodiversity: Respect the integrity of vulnerable ecosystems and protected areas
#10 Public Health: Protect public health.
